Ratling guardians are NPCs guarding the entrance to the High Mountain Village. They don't move (except to chase the attackers), but can be switched places with and therefore put anywhere on the level as well as taken to other locations. It is possible to rob the village shop blocking the exit for Leggot while taking the shop items. This will, however, spawn thugs and is typically not recommended. The other way to use guardians' immobility is to block the entrance to the village from hostile monsters (notably stone giant lord). This obstacle takes several turns to set up and is not very reliable as guardians may simply be killed.

| - This valiant fellow is a former member of the royal guard. His bright golden livery with braids and shining buttons and his fur-trimmed cap still testify to the power and the glory of the age of the High Kings. But even in chaotic times, the ratling guardian retains a streak of pomp and circumstance and enjoys wearing his old uniform. While he's waiting for the return of the king, he reliably guards the fortress-like city.
