It is wonderful if a school is already in a varsity sports coop for swimming because there is a culture of cooperation. The students and community understand the concept of a coop too. If one school is in a coop for one sport, there can be different coops for different sports. Northgate High School is already in a coop for swimming. So, it won't be much of a stretch to get it for water polo. My aim is to grow the sport and in-turn help swimming to thrive. Having more local opportunities is wonderful.

So, it won't be much of a stretch to get it for water polo. Furthermore, those who might swim for Northgate but not reside in the Northgate district, as part of the coop, could play SOME water polo with our Pittsburgh Combined team as well. When we play throughout the summer, it isn't varsity water polo. So, anyone can play. And, if we have a water polo festival that is beyond varsity, anyone can play. So, for example, if there are a few players from Avalon, they'd be welcome too, but just in certain settings. When it comes to the fall varsity / jv games with other PA schools, they'd not be able to play. Oh well. We think we can get some games with our kids in other settings, such as against club college teams. So, it isn't a BAD thing to those in Q.V. or Avenworth. But, it is a GREAT thing for Northgate kids. I am the 'team building type' in that if we get a good number of Northgate kids, I'd be most supportive of you all forming your own team in due time. An all rookie team is hard. But, if some play this year and more are to follow, we could still play with each other all summers. Then in September we can split the team --- again with another board agenda item. But, that could be down the road. My aim is to grow the sport and in-turn help swimming to thrive. Having more local opportunities is wonderful.
