The sole reason to have LR_Radio is that it enables you to send an IC message from one planet to another without using the faction channel, which sometimes has enemy interceptors listening in on it. An enemy interceptor can only intercept a point-to-point radio call if they are in the same room as the sender or the reciever of the radio transmission.
