Cryo-fluid, more completely named cryo-preservation fluid, and also called cryo-solution, was an extremely complex substance that preserved a person's body at extremely cold temperatures, preventing crystalline freezing of the water in the body for a potentially very long time. It is not described in detail in the Vorkosigan Saga. The fluid was greenish in color; a person preparing someone for cryogenic storage had to replace all the blood in the body with cryofluid; if it did not perfuse some of the tissues, there would be crystalline freezing and/or hematomas.

Doctoral research was still being done on improvements to the fluid at the time of Cryoburn.
