The column generally takes a cylindrical form; it also looks a lot like a watersprout with the upper part simply missing. Ordinarily, Water pedestal is a high-level water channeler ability; however, any rogue mage with a basic knowledge of magic can use it with much greater effectiveness. In Qura's first engagement against a rogue mage, her opponent uses this spell in the water. Being able to stand on the water and not sinking into it requires the ability to walk on water, generally not a difficult task for any water channeler (including both Qura and her opponent in this case). The water offers protection against fire-type attacks and is also a local resource for a water channeler to draw upon.
