Even when owned by the Imperial government, it still was a leading economic player on the galactic scene. The Trade Federation battleship/freighter hybrid starships still employed Neimoidians and battle droids as crew and soldiers, but during the Imperial era also were staffed by Imperial Navy officers and Imperial Navy troopers, and often fanatically pro-Imperial stormtroopers or CompForce soldiers. Starfighters on these freighter/battleship vessels were a combination of both droid starfighters and TIE fighters. Around 0 ABY and later years, the Trade Federation, being owned by the Imperial government, was a frequent target of the Rebel Alliance and, later, the New Republic. In 6 ABY, the Imperial government on Coruscant sold ownership of the Trade Federation to the Corporate Sector Authority, and the CSA used the Trade Federation starfleet and armed droid forces to exercise influence throughout the known galaxy, far beyond its base within the Corporate Sector itself.
