In 1986, Commanders Nyota Uhura and Pavel Chekov visited the base after traveling back in time from the 23rd century. The pair hoped to locate a suitable nuclear reactor from which to harvest anti-protons to recrystallize the dilithium crystals of the HMS Bounty. They found the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) docked at the base, and returned later to harvest the anti-protons. While Uhura was able to escape, Chekov was detained by the crew of the Enterprise, and was seriously injured attempting to escape.
