Classmates nicknamed Henick "Gristle" due to his overuse of the catch phrase "Hard as Gristle", which he would commonly use to describe any difficult task. Henick was assigned to 2nd Bat. 9th Regt where he saw combat as a Rifleman during Operation Arcturan Freedom and recieved the Bronze Star for his heroism. When it was time to re-enlist, Henick did so without hesitation. The USCM has become his new job, home and family.
