Paduano earned the nickname "Fat Walrus Bobby" because of his amorphous size, weighing around 4000 pounds. Paduano was known by law enforcement as one of the better earning mafia figures in Southern California. He was named as one of the top 92 organized crime figures in California in a 1978 report by then Attorney General Evelle Younger. In March of 1991, Paduano pleaded guilty to 43 felony counts of residential robberies (primarily at the homes of suspected drug dealers in Newport Beach), extortion, conspiracy to sell cocaine and false imprisonment as part of an agreement with county prosecutors, and was sentenced to eight years in state prison.
