Lieutenant William Hodges was a Starfleet plasma field maintenance engineer who was involved in the construction of the USS Enterprise-D at the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards. There he became romantically involved with Ensign Marla Finn in 2362. Finn's other lover, Walter Pierce, caught both of them in a romantic embrace and killed them both by a plasma discharge. Pierce later killed himself. Hodges' death was noted in Starfleet files as an accident and his true fate was not revealed until 2370, when Pierce was identified as the murderer by Enterprise officers.
