The Slave of the Royal Bedstead is a round little man who serves the owner of the Royal Bedstead of Quok. In the headboard of the mahogany bedstead of the King of Quok is a hidden compartment opened by a secret spring. Inside is a folded paper with several leaves fastened together like a book. Upon the first page is written this verse: When the king is in trouble This leaf he must double And set it on fire To obtain his desire. When this is done a great smudge is created, out of which the Slave of the Royal Bedstead appears.
