Jan Koller (born 30 March 1973 in Smetanova Lhota) is an amiable giant who was lured into captivity and forced to play for the Czech Republic. A freak of nature blessed and cursed in equal measure by gargantuan stature, Koller snubbed a bright future as a lighthouse to become a footballer. Despite starting life as a goalkeeper, a young Jan truly made his name as a striker at Sparta Prague. As tall as most bungalows and just as solidly built, Koller was almost unmarkable and became the Czech Republic’s all-time leading goal scorer.
