When Ray and Debra got married, Debra switched out the original mediocre diamond (that she didn't know was glass) with her grandmother's $15,000 diamond. Ray, not knowing that the glass one had already been switched out, threw out the expensive diamond (thinking it was the glass one) and had it replaced.
