Synopsis
  • It is the day of the New York City Marathon. Still hurting from his Frightful Four battles, Peter heads to Deb Whitman's apartment where he finds her with her hometown flame Biff Rifkin, He goes to a Greenwich Village ER to have his ankle examined, overhears two men planning to assassinate someone to put them "outta the race" and believes a marathoner's life is in danger. After being treated for a sprained ankle, Pete calls Madame Web to see if she can help. He then stops by his repaired but smoke-damaged apartment, and goes out as Spidey to hunt the killers. As he swings along the race's route, he prevents a drunk driver from hitting runners, a runner from falling off the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, and marathon watchers from falling with a tenement fire escape. He hears phone booth phones ringing along the route. Finally a passerby hails him. saying that the call is for him. It is Madame Web. who tells Spidey that there are two assassins by a water tower. Their target is politician Barney Wicker, presiding at the Finish Line, who they want to put out of the Congressional race. Spidey stops the assassins by tipping the water tower's roof onto them.

  • Right now, I'd trade the whole Spider-Man bit for a rocking chair and a subscription to Reader's Digest.
