The Lovian republic referendum was a referendum in which Congress consulted the Lovian people on a proposal to amend the Lovian Constitution. Following the abdication of Dimitri I on August 13th, it was decided that due to a strong republican movement, the Lovian people should be offered the option of discontinuing the monarchy before successor Prince Sebastian was crowned. The referendum was held on August 31st after congressional authorisation. Results the next day showed that the monarchists had won by a large margin, obtaining 65% of the vote. Turnout was 82%, which was roughly the figure expected considering the importance of the issue and public awareness. Sebastian was crowned on September 1st, late in the afternoon.
