On the Death Carrier, Doctor Zachary explains his plan to Rouge, when Shadow steps in with news. Knuckles has arrived on Flickies' Island looking for the Chaos Emeralds. Just when he should be right on top of them, Shadow appears to confront the echidna. He gives Knuckles a hard time, but is quickly attacked by a blue streak: Sonic has arrived, and immediately begins fighting Shadow again.
