Ghwerig was a dwarfed troll who lived in isolation from his kind. Whle mining he retrieved Bhelliom, a magical jewel, from its cave and sculpted it into the shape of a rose, infusing it with the spirits of the Troll Gods as he did so. Ghwerig was maddened by the loss of Bhelliom, and he devoted most of the rest of his life to searching for it. He eventually found it, but was killed by Sparhawk and Kurik at the end of The Ruby Knight as they wrest it from him.
