The United Kingdom was formed in 1907 with a united country spanning the whole British Isles. The UK quickly built up the largest navy by far in the world and their colonial empire spanned a full quarter of the globe. The UK granted "Dominion" status to Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the American colonies between 1910-1913, giving those nations almost complete autonomy in the British Empire. During WW2, the British navy ruled the seas and the British army, although quite a bit smaller than the other nation's armies, fought hard and held the German forces to a standstill. After WW1, the UK granted full independence to the colonies formerly under "Dominion" status.
