A ground squirrel was a small Earth mammal from North America. In 2376, Noah Lessing compared the landscape of a plant located in the Delta Quadrant to McKinley Park, where he described an area on that planet as being a place where a family of ground squirrels once lived, and that right next to it was a patch of poison ivy.
