Its because aside from the elemental heroes from last season, Normal monsters have become nearly useless. Cards like Birthright and Lycanthrope certainly support them, but where a single card can wipe out the field, those beatdown related normal monsters are simply inadequate. Yes, with a Skill Drain, and spell and trap cards yes, you can make them worthwhile, but all that is wiped away with a single heavy storm, ect.
