Gail Potter and Suzie Birchall coerced Steve Fisher into taking them along on a delivery he had to make in Southport for Baldwin's Casuals in September 1977. They diverted him to Formby Beach where the sand trapped the tyres of the van as the tide came in. They managed to free the van but the goods within it were damaged. Mike Baldwin sacked Steve but he was reinstated when Gail and Suzie pleaded his case and took the blame. Sally Webster's uncle Tom Hopwood retired to the town in September 1987, asking friend Hilda Ogden to view a bungalow he was buying. His plan was to propose to Hilda and move there with her but she refused his offer, saying that the late Stan Ogden was the only man for her. Tom moved to the town without her. Jack and Vera Duckworth had a holiday in a caravan near the town in May and June 2005. Jack was not pleased to be trapped in the caravan by Vera who decided to treat it as their love nest while she was unhappy that he had brought his beloved pigeons along with him. She gave him an ultimatum - the birds or her - and was shocked when he chose the pigeons, packing up and leaving her alone in the caravan.
