  • Benny Rakestraw is a former NASCAR driver from Dallas, GA. He competed in thirteen Sprint Cup Series events in his career, earning three top-tens. Rakestraw's debut came in 1956, when he competed at Spartanburg. Starting last (18th) in the field, Rakestraw survived a large amount of attrition to end the day 9th. Rakestraw's next five races came in 1958, when he finished 174th in the points, the only year his points effort is known. It was a really tough year, though, for the driver. Four DNFs in five starts hampered his efforts severly, only finishing a best of 22nd at Weaverville. But the race that he did finish was a solid race for Rakestraw, finishing 8th at Birmingham. Rakestraw's final seven races all came during the 1959 season, when he again had a fairly mixed season. DNFs took him out of three races, but Rakestraw only finished worse than 20th twice. He did manage a career-best finish of 4th at Columbia to go along with a 13th at Daytona and a 15th at Weaverville (Rakestraw's final career start).
