An Entity of Type : owl:Thing, within Data Space : dbkwik.org associated with source dataset(s)

More commonly spelled Gwyn Ap Nudd, he is the King of the underworld (Annwn) in some accounts of Welsh mythology. In other accounts, he is the psychopomp, the being who escorts the dead from the world of the living to the world of the dead (similar to Anubis' role in Egyptian mythology). The phantom hounds Cwn Annwn would be let loose on the surface to hunt down souls to bring into the underworld. He is also considered master of the wild hunt. Gwyn Ap Nudd is involved in a famous feud with Gwythr Ap Greidawl, which occurs on May Day and is supposed to represent a contest between summer and winter (represented by Gwyn Ap Nudd). This feud started when a maiden, Creiddylad, eloped with Gwythr Ap Greidawl and Gwyn Ap Nudd decided to kidnap her. Gwyn means "white, fair, bright" and the ap Nudd

Gwyn means "white, fair, bright" and the ap Nudd part seems to pertain to being the son of the deity Nudd (also called Nodens).
