- Due to the nature of non-Paramount authorized productions, Star Trek: TCM, is a non-profit production. The producers were determined to depict a Starfleet crew who were more militaristic and less perfect than the spandex wearing Star Trek: The Next Generation. Starting in the pilot episode, Star Trek: TCM aims to have previous Star Trek guest stars appear on the program.

As the producers of Star Trek: The Continuing Mission are fans themselves and often make use of behind the scenes materials provided on DVDs etc, they decided to publish regular podcasts about the progress of the production of the pilot, Ghost Ship, as well as releasing behind the scenes commentaries for every episode released.
