Emperor/ress of Gao-Soto is the title of the reigning Monarch of the Empire of Gao-Soto. Although since the restoration of Gao-Soto in Hulstria and Gao-Soto the current official style in Kunikata (and consequently in most Luthoran and Hulstrian) is Mikado of Gao-Soto, earlier monarchs bore the title Tenno (heavenly sovereign). For this reason, the Emperor of Gao-Soto is still the head of the Kamist religion in Gao-Soto. The Emperor of Gao-Soto officially bears no clan name, because despite dynastic changes, all the Emperors legitimate their rule through at least matrilineal descent from Emperor Meijiyo, the first Emperor of Gao-Soto, who is held to be of divine origins. Nevertheless, in the Hulstrian and Luthorian language, the clan name of the reigning modern Gao-Showan Emperor is usually (incorrectly) used. In 3393, Gao-Showan nationalists crowned the head of the highest-ranking still-extant Gao-Showan clan, the Okatori Clan, as the new Mikado of Gao-Soto. Members of the Imperial Clan have held the position ever since (barring 5 years of imprisonment under the Imperial Socialist Party regime).
