As the yin energy is located in the lungs, the yin energy merges itself with the sound waves causing any who hear it to be trapped within the genjutsu. The actual genjutsu and the effects of the genjutsu can vary greatly. Otohime has been seen using this technique to knock foes out, mess with their senses, inflict fear, or cause opponents to feel pain that is not actually there. If enough chakra is used she can even use it to plant a mental suggestion into the opponent's head, allowing Otohime to control the minds of weak willed individuals .Of course as a genjutsu, being hit by the sound waves can cause opponents to see illusions. It appears that Otohime can choose what the mental image will be, allowing her to catch her opponents off guard. Regardless of what the mental image is, the genjutsu is pretty difficult to break out of, allowing Otohime to leave most opponents vulnerable for at least a second if not longer.
