Shortly after, he abandoned the Light and joined the Darkness, becoming a demon. There are rumours that he is an agent of the Elders, but they are unsubstantiated. He has allied with agents of the Light before, however. The most prominent ally so far was the witch Shanna O'Neil, whom Azrael helped banish three upper demons; Vizzen, Alastor and Vrail. Unfortunately, the three has recently returned to exact their vengeance upon Azrael and the descendents of Shanna.

Unfortunately, the three has recently returned to exact their vengeance upon Azrael and the descendents of Shanna. Azrael feeds on doubt, and as such enjoys treachery. Nevertheless, he can exhibit amazing loyalty, though his alliances usually end in treachery. Only a fool fully trusts Azrael. Azrael has the generic demonic abilities of Shimmering and Fireballs. He can also hear any conversation where his name is mentioned, but only if the use of the name is directed specifically at him. This ability is easily warded against, however.
