When the Cardassian Liberation Front was being conceived and Hans Beimler observed to Ronald D. Moore that his perspective of Damar as a rebel leader was much like Spartacus, Moore, latching onto the idea, agreed that he wanted the rebelling Cardassians to be akin to the Roman slave revolt Spartacus led. (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p. 690) It was important to Moore and René Echevarria, while they were writing "The Dogs of War" , for the Cardassian rebellion "to be on the verge of the people rising up," in Echevarria's words.
