| - Murakami Shintōgo (芯刀御叢火海; Shintōgo Murakami; lit. "Marrow of the Swords Honor, Gathering Sea of Flames") was once a respected officer of the Ninth Division in the Gotei 13 several centuries ago. On a routine patrol with his squad on the border of the Human World follow reports of increased Hollow activity, he would discover the sinister plans of an Arrancar to create a massive breach into the Human World. Taking decisive action he and his squadron battled against the Hollow forces, forcing them back through the dimensional tear and sealing it off from the other side. Trapped in the dunes of Hueco Mundo, he and his men fought valiantly in a desperate struggle of survival, eagerly awaiting the arrival of reinforcements. But in an act that would forever change Murakami, the Gotei 13 withheld its soldiers, claiming that Murakami and his men were an "acceptable loss", in those two words the hope for victory was shattered. In an effort to save his men, Murakami stayed behind to delay as many forces as he could but was soon overrun but not before seeing those whom he considered friends, possibly even family were butchered before him. His last moment of consciousness was the creeping darkness of anguish and despair before they claimed him. When he awoke, he was a changed man, Hollowified by the events that led to his squadrons demise, he would spend his time wandering the Hueco Mundo to control the darkness within him. During the events of the Winter War, Murakami having grown into a competent warrior, tempered by the constant battles of Hueco Mundo banded together with a group of outcasts, Arrancar and rebels to stop the return of a Vasto Lorde whose size and power would have crushed both Hueco Mundo and Soul Society far beneath the Menos Forests. In an awesome display of leadership, tactics and luck, he and these wayward souls would accomplish the impossible and seal the Leviathan once more. In the aftermath of the Winter War, Murakami would continue to adventure throughout the three Worlds, slaying beasts and demons, righting wrongs and living according to his ideals; a champion, a soldier, and a swordsman.
