  • Item #: SCP-RS-044 Object Class: Safe Special Containment Procedures: At present, six (6) specimens of SCP-RS-044 are kept in a crucible containing █.█ m3 of rhyolite lava at Site-██ for research purposes. Its contents should maintain a temperature between 1,150° and 1,200° C at all times. An LWIR thermal imaging camera has been installed for the purpose of monitoring the environment. Description: SCP-RS-044 is a species of eel found in molten lava. How it is adapted to such high temperatures is not known. Instances weigh an average of 0.2 kg when fully grown and are usually between 0.5 and 0.6 m in length. SCP-RS-044 has only been found at two (2) locations to date: * an underground lava flow █.█ km south of Taverley * the active volcanic field near the [REDACTED] corner of the Wilderness Experiments have shown that SCP-RS-044 can only survive within a specific temperature range. Cooling the molten rock to 850° C or below causes SCP-RS-044 to exhibit symptoms of hypothermia, become lethargic and eventually die. Raising the temperature to 1,500° C or above results in SCP-RS-044 perishing of what appears to be heat stroke. SCP-RS-044 takes on a consistency similar to that of regular cooked eel when exposed to grilling temperatures; the process takes approximately ██ minutes at 260° C. The end product appears to be edible; multiple D-class have consumed it with no ill effects, and senior researcher ██████ ████ later remarked that it was "lip-smacking good" despite having a preference for vegetarian food.
