| Synopsis
| - Part 11 of 14 of "Maximum Carnage." Venom is held captive in the torch of the Statue of Liberty by Carnage and Carrion. He is dangling over a small fire, while Carnage mocks him from the sidelines and Carrion coldly watches. Doppleganger and Demogoblin are knocked through the glass windows, and Carnage muses as to whom is responsible for their conditions. Suddenly Morbius the Living Vampire and Nightwatch appear. Morbius expresses their joint desire to destroy these monsters with Carnage saying "oh brother, do you have a wake-up call coming." Elsewhere, Spider-Man leads a team of superheros through the city on the search for Carnage. This team is comprised of Firestar, Iron Fist, Captain America, and Deathlok. The heroes are intent on finding the source of the madness which apparently grips the citizens of Manhattan. It has been detailed to some extent in prior issues the extent to which normal citizens have been driven to aggression and violence since Carnage escaped. As the heroes round a corner, Firestar comments that she believes they've found the source of the insanity. The next panel reveals Shriek overlooking a large crowd of people who are going completely beserk. She appears to be emanating some sort of energy. The heroes immediately engage Shriek who, somewhat surprisingly seems to hold her own against ALL of them. However, Captain America knocks her out with his shield.

| quotation
| - Being true to what I am is the most important thing! I realize it now! And if I ignore it -- everything else in my life, including my relationship with Mary Jane, will be nothing but a hollow sham! M.J. was wrong! This is worth the risk!
