Frederic John Napier Thesiger (12 August 1868 – 1 April 1933), known as Baron Chelmsford from 1905 and Viscount Chelmsford from 1921 was a local politician and colonial administrator. Member of the London School Board, elected for Chelsea 25 January 1900, he was re-elected and served until the school board was abolished in 1904. The London County Council took over the education responsibilities of the abolished board, and Thesiger was elected to represent Kensington South as a Municipal Reform Party councillor. He suceeded to the title Baron Chelmsford in April 1905. Later in that year he was appointed Governor of Queensland and resigned his county council seat on 17 October 1905.

He remained in Australia until 1913, becoming Governor of New South Wales in 1909. Returning to the United Kingdom, he was appointed an alderman on London County Council in March 1913. He resigned from the council for a second time on 22 February 1916, having been appointed Viceroy of India. At the end of his term of office in India in 1921 he was created Viscount Chelmsford He later held office as First Lord of the Admiralty and Agent-General for New South Wales.
