Announced at E3 2001, Great Bay (グレートベイ, Great Bay) is a stage in Super Smash Bros. Melee that could be considered Young Link's stage (it is where the player fights him when they attempt to unlock him, and Young Link was the main protagonist in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, from which this stage originates). • Periodically, the Giant Turtle will dive underwater, and it is possible to pop Tingle's balloon as well. Interestingly, in the original game, the Marine Research Lab faces the shore. In Melee, the lab faces the right of the stage, showing the beach in the background. A smaller platform located at the left of the stage is also not found in the original game. Snowhead and the Pirates' Fortress can be seen in the background of the stage. Looming above the stage is the Moon, which slowly comes closer to the stage. When it hovers dangerously close to Termina, the Four Giants appear to stop it, returning it to the sky, starting the Moon's cycle all over again.

The entire stage is surrounded by water, in which characters cannot swim. The stage is where Young Link is commonly fought in classic mode and where the player can first unlock him. It is also the location of "Event 9: Hide 'n' Sheik" and "Event 34: Seven Years". Link is fought here in All-Star Mode. The stage features two exclusive musical scores; one titled "Great Bay", which, despite its name, is really a symphonic arrangement of "The Legend of Zelda Theme", as well as "Saria's Theme", a simple, flute-based rendition of "Saria's Song" from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. : Non-canonical information ends here.
