Gosen (五泉市 Gosen-shi) is a city located in Niigata Prefecture, Japan . The city was founded on November 3, 1954. As of February 2012, the city has an estimated population of 55,304, with 18,399 households and a population density of 157.17 persons per km². The total area is 351.87 km². On January 1, 2006, the town of Muramatsu (from Nakakanbara District) was merged into Gosen.
