Daled IV had an almost identical atmosphere to Klavdia III. The troposphere of the planet distorted normal communications signals and required a lot of energy to penetrate. The environment was hostile to humanoid lifeforms. Daled IV had at least three moons, and its third moon was inhabited and similar in appearance to Earth's moon Luna.

Disparate cultures evolved in each hemisphere which resulted in a civil war lasting for the entirety of their recorded history. (TNG: "The Dauphin" ) The planet model for Daled IV was first used for Klavdia III. ("The Dauphin" ) It was later used for Tau Cygna V, ("The Ensigns of Command" ) Moab IV, ("The Masterpiece Society" ) and Devidia II. ("Time's Arrow" )

Z tohoto důvodu je obyvatelstvo kulturně rozděleno, jedna z frakcí žije pouze na neosvětlené a druhá na osvětlené polovině planety. Daled IV má nejméně tři měsíce. Třetí měsíc je také obydlen. Na planetě je prostředí velmi nepřátelské k životu. V roce 2349 se na planetě Daled IV narodila Salia. Její otec patřil k jedné frakci a matka do druhé. Rodiče nechali Saliu lodí Federace přepravit na planetu Klavdiu III, kde měla vyrůstat v mírovém neutrálním prostředí a pilným studiem se připravovat na převzetí vlády na své rodné planetě. Saliiny rodiče zemřeli krátce po jejím narození. Po šestnácti letech strávených mimo domov, se Salia vrátila s pomocí lodi USS Enterprise-D zpět na svoji rodnou planetu Daled IV, aby převzala vladařské povinnosti a pokusila se sjednotit místní obyvatelstvo. Po celou dobu, kterou strávila Salia na planetě Klavdia III a i při zpátečním letu na Daled IV, ji doprovázela její vychovatel Anya.
