The holy, glorious, all-laudable Apostle Cephas is numbered among the Seventy Apostles, and was bishop of Iconium or Colophon, Pamphylia. It is assumed that he is the one who is mentioned by the Apostle Paul (1 Cor. 15:5). The Church remembers St. Cephas on March 30 with, Apostles Sosthenes, Apollos, Caesar, and Epaphroditus; and on December 8 with the same apostles and Onesiphorus. The name "Cephas" is Aramaic for "Peter."

Apostles of the 70 were chosen and sent by the Lord Jesus Christ himself to preach. They were chosen some time after the selection of the Twelve Apostles (Luke 10:1-24). All seventy are commemorated by the Church on January 4. The name "Cephas" is Aramaic for "Peter."
