The Shrine of Compassion was one of the seven Shrines of Bushido. It was built within the Oiku village, was one of the seven shrines in the Lion lands which had been ordered by Akodo himself, to revere the tenets of Bushido. It was a small shrine, which had fallen into disuse over the years following Matsu Tsuko's abandonment of Oiku as a primary military post. It was served by no more than a dozen monks, usually old retired bushi.
