After Dave Killian took over Hoersch-Kessel Drive, he saw a need for a medium starfighter. This vessel would be used as a system patrol vessel, but could also be used as a substitute for heavier fighters. Thus the MF-2 Avatar was born. The Avatar has a very distinct shape, with its cockpit above the engine. Next to the engine itself, there is a separate section, which contains the power generator, shield generator and hyperdrive, as well as the two laser cannons. Situated between the two sections are a small, third section comprised of the proton torpedo launcher.
