Narrows of the Forest was the "waist" of Mirkwood forest made so by the indentation of the East Bight. The Narrows was located in the south-central part of the forest and was quite narrow, hence the name with an east-west length of only about eighty miles while most of Mirkwood's areas were over a hundred miles in length from east to west.
