Synopsis
  • Elsewhere, the Trigger Twins burst into mob boss Danny Doyle's hidehout, hoping to rob him. Rather than have them killed, or face being killed, Doyle offers the twins a job.
  • After defeating Bane, the new Batman - Jean-Paul Valley - has had few real challenges to face in Gotham City. He grows bored with thwarting common street thugs and saving citizens. On one such occasion he saves a family from thugs, and the victim seems just as afraid of him as he was of his attackers.
  • Meanwhile, in New Jersey, Tom Trigger is interrupted midway through robbing a bank by a man who seems to be his doppelganger. On the fly, they decide to team up and rob the bank together. Later they go to a bar, and come to the conclusion that they are twins separated at birth. Furthermore, they realize that they both have intentions to make a name for themselves in Gotham City, so they decide to team up indefinitely as the Trigger Twins.
  • At Drake Manor, Tim Drake impatiently waits for his housekeeper Mrs. McIlvaine to fall asleep so he can return to the batcave and do some work on the streets as Robin. When he opens the secret passage from his home to the cave, Tim is taken aback when he discovers that the passage into the cave has been walled off. Jean-Paul's message is clear: No Robins allowed.
  • Elsewhere, the Trigger Twins kill one of Doyle's rivals, Manny Deech while Batman tests out his new Batmobile. Despite being aware that he must be careful to avoid scheduled subway trains, and memorize the rail lines, he soon finds himself speeding toward an oncoming train.
  • One night, Jean-Paul dreams of his patron, Saint Dumas. The apparition warns that Jean-Paul will be transformed into something beyond the Batman - that he must become a demon if the dark city of Gotham is to be redeemed. After waking, Jean-Paul returns to the Batcave, making further changes to his Batsuit. While searching for Harold deeper in the cave, Jean-Paul realizes that the dwarf has secretly been working on a large project. He follows the trail until discovering that Harold has built a specialized Batmobile that runs on the rails of a derelict Gotham subway line.

Notes
  • * This issue is part of the crossover "Knightquest: The Crusade" - a follow up to the Knightfall saga. * First appearance of the new Trigger Twins. Though they share the same surnames as their 19th century counterparts, it is unclear if Tad and Tom are descendents of the original Trigger Twins. * This issue is reprinted in Batman: Knightfall Volume Two: Knightquest.
quotation
  • Casual violence is a way of life to them. It's done for fun and profit. Until tonight. Tonight it gets real. Real serious. Real scary. Real painful. Real fast.
