Before the Leviathan exposes itself, it attacks the gunboat with its tentacles, which can be either cut with the Lancer's Chainsaw Bayonet, or just shot at. If you do it too late, the tentacles will unbalance the gunboat and make Marcus and Dom snacks for the Leviathan. Another alternative is to tag them with a Bolo Grenade then it will instantly let go, swirl around, then the tip of it will explode. After the player manages to roughen up its tentacles a few times with good hits, Dom will say "Look, over there!" and you will see the head of the Leviathan. The Leviathan bites the front of the boat, requiring the player to shoot its eyes to get it off. When the player shoots it in the eyes a second time, they can then run inside its mouth and shoot the small tentacles in its mouth that will turn a bluish/white color and start to spin. If you don't shoot it fast enough, it will hit you. Once this is done, the Leviathan's throat starts to expand and a hole opens up in it, leading to the esophagus. Lob a Bolo Grenade in it, which can be found on the boat after the Leviathan bites the crates (crates will be shattered after a bite). You will know the grenade worked when the hole spits blood and fire. Repeating this process will eventually kill the Leviathan. If you escape for more grenades when it is too late, the jaws of the Leviathan will snap shut and kill Marcus and Dom.
