They bombarded the planet and wiped out the Telphin in that single day. The Seventh Doctor managed to salvage a living thing from the planet and found it to be the "spirit of the Telphin". He took it to Earth and on 20 December 1945, made Simon Galway its host.

As he did so, Simon began to remember the day when he had met the Doctor in '45. At that moment he was filled with light and the spirit of the Telphin was freed from him.
