Social Distortion was met with critical reception upon its release, and is now considered a classic album by fans, critics, and the band members themselves. Some of the members of Social D consider it their masterpiece. Social Distortion reached #128 on the U.S. Billboard 200 album chart and earned the band its first gold record, marking over 500,000 copies sold. The album spawned a number of official/promotional singles for the band: "Let It Be Me", "Ball and Chain", the Johnny Cash cover "Ring of Fire", "Sick Boys" and "Story of My Life".
