Pokedex: “Pumpkaboo, the Ghost/Grass Type Pumpkin Pokemon. It is said that Pumpkaboo carry wandering spirits to where they belong so they can move on. As the sun sets, they can become restless and active.” Ryan: “Sorry Pumpkaboo. We didn’t mean to disturb you.” Chespin: “Chespin!” Ryan: “Oh no! Leech Seed!” Chespin: “Chespin! Chespin Ches!” Ryan: “I don’t think anyone’s on the path Chespin!” Trainer: “Good timing Taillow” Taillow: “Tai” Ryan: “Thanks Taillow.” Ryan (to Taillow’s trainer): “I’m Ryan by the way.” Ryan: “Froakie, use some Frubbles to cloud Pumpkaboo’s vision!” Ryan: “Froakie!” Ryan: “Taillow, might want to move in case you get hit. Froakie, try to use Water Pledge on Pumpkaboo!” Ryan: “Ack!” Ryan: “Alright Froakie, you’re clearly in no condition to battle Pumpkaboo. Return!” Ryan: “Alright, let’s hope the battle turns around.” Ryan: “Scatterbug, Tackle!” Ryan: “Oh come on! That’s not fair!” Trainer: “This isn’t a game Pumpkaboo. Taillow, Brave Bird!” Trainer: “Good hit Taillow.” Ryan: “Alright Pumpkaboo, I originally didn’t want to do it, but now I find you worth a catch!” Ryan: “Alright Pokeball, let’s go!” Chespin (indignant): “Chespin, Chespin Ches!” Ryan: “Oh, wanna have a go?” Chespin: “Ches!” Ryan: “Sorry. Chespin Vine Whip!” Ryan: “Alright! Now, Pokeball, let’s catch this sucker!” Ryan: “Ow!” Ryan: “Chespin, use your vines and slam Pumpkaboo into the ground!” Ryan: “Alright, Pokeball, now we can catch Pumpkaboo!” Ryan: “Alright!” Ryan: “Thanks to Taillow and its trainer’s help, we caught Pumpkaboo!” Chespin: “Chespin!” Trainer: “My name is Anthony. And this is Taillow. It’s the toughest Taillow around.” Ryan: “Thanks again for the help. Like I said before my name is Ryan.” Anthony: “Why don’t we have a Pokemon battle?” Ryan: “Why not? Not only will it give Pumpkaboo and I a chance to get acquainted, it could help improve everyone for our upcoming battle at Lumiose Gym. Although, not sure if you’re going to get a chance to battle Froakie. You know, with how it was hit with Confuse Ray.” Anthony: “Right, let’s go then!” Starly: “Starly!” Ryan: “Starly huh?” Pokédex: “Starly, the Normal/Flying Starling Pokemon. They flock around fields and mountains, chasing Bug Pokemon. Because they are weak individually, they form groups. But they bicker if the group grows too big.” Ryan: “I’ll let you take the first move Anthony. Pumpkaboo, I choose you!” Pumpkaboo: “Pump!” Ryan: “Like I said Anthony, I’ll let you and Starly go first.” Anthony: “Double Team!” Ryan: “Use Astonish! He’s bound to react to it.” But Pumpkaboo uses Astonish on the wrong Starly. As it turns out, it was one of the copies. This gave Starly time for an attack. Anthony: “Ghost type moves don’t work on Normal Types. Now, Wing Attack!” Ryan: “Quick Pumpkaboo! Build up a big Confuse Ray and blast them all!” Ryan: “Pumpkaboo!” Ryan: “Confuse Ray now!” Anthony: “Starly! We’ve trained for this, use Toxic!” Ryan: “Whoa. Okay. Uh…” Ryan: “Oh, duh, of course! Ensnare Starly with Leech Seed!” Anthony: “Starly, listen to my voice. Spin and use Steel Wing!” Anthony: “Now Toxic!” Ryan: “Move and attempt another Leech Seed! Tighten the vines so it has more trouble this time!” Ryan: “Ugh!” Anthony: “Now, Wing Attack!” Ryan: “Oh no! I don’t know what to do!” Ryan: “Nice improv move Pumpkaboo!” Anthony: “Cheap.” Anthony: “We just need to hold on, use Steel Wing. Go in fast!” Ryan: “Another Confuse Ray!” Anthony: “You do need to attack to win you know? Look at Pumpkaboo. It’s taking damage from poison and Steel Wing. Double Team, go!” Ryan: “Attack the third Starly with Confuse Ray!” Anthony: “Starly!” Ryan: “Alright!” Anthony: “You know you done nothing to actually win. I thought you’d be a good opponent, yet you only used Confuse Ray. When Starly was tangled up in Leech Seed, you should have gone ahead and used Razor Leaf to finish Starly off.” Ryan (after returning Pumpkaboo): “I didn’t think, okay!? I’m still learning! Cut me some slack!” Chespin: “Ches?” Ryan (Tense): “I’m fine, let’s just get to Lumiose and find a Pokemon Center.” Ryan (thinking): “I’ll show that jerk. I’ll beat the Lumiose Gym Leader! Then he’ll see how good I am!” Narrator: “After a bad start to the day, Ryan tripped over a Pumpkaboo. After Ryan and Chespin were constricted with Leech Seed, a passing trainer named Anthony helped set Ryan free and Ryan caught Pumpkaboo. Afterwards, Anthony challenged Ryan to a battle, but lost. With Anthony’s words ringing in Ryan’s brain, he is more determined than ever to beat the Lumiose gym. Will he succeed? Find out next time!"
