The Cherek Bore is a large maelstrom inbetween the Gulf of Cherek and the Sea of Winds. Most sane sailors avoided the Bore, but occasionally a Cherek sailor, wishing to tempt his luck, would try to use the Bore and pick up speed , slingshotting himself and his ship through the Bore. When seen by Garion in Pawn of Prophecy, it was the size of the entire village of Upper Gralt. Barak remarked to a seasick Silk that the dangerous nature of the Bore had kept the navy of Tolnedra out of the Gulf, and therefore prevented them from having influence over the Alorn nations.
