Bauxite, an aluminium ore, is the world's main source of aluminium. It consists mostly of the minerals gibbsite Al (O )3, boehmite γ-AlO(OH) and diaspore α-AlO(OH), mixed with the two iron oxides goethite and haematite, the clay mineral kaolinite and small amounts of anatase . In 1821 the French geologist Pierre Berthier discovered bauxite near the village of Les Baux in Provence, southern France. In 1861, French chemist Henri Sainte-Claire Deville named the mineral "bauxite".

The aluminium hydroxide in the lateritic bauxite deposits is almost exclusively gibbsite.

- Bauxite is a regular earth sized planet, which is rich with the compound Bauxite, in the outer colonies of the UNSC. Bauxite is the most important aluminium ore for making aluminium and so massive factories and refineries were created on this planet, to fuel the UNSC's need of aluminium. However, due to its distance from the inner colonies, it was very open for attack by the Covenant in the Human-Covenant War. It's only sun, Bertheir, gives all light and heat to the small system of planets, which orbit it. Bauxite, is one of the main Aluminium ores and this planet is mostly covered in mining quarries, factories and refineries. However other materials are mined and created here, and because of this, Bauxite is a mjor industiral hub for the UNSC. Despite this, its distance causes many transportation and protection issues. Therefore supplies are kept waiting until regular distribution ships come every few weeks. They drop off small suplies for the planet but leave with masses of refined Ores. Also the military protection on this planet is low due to the inner colonies' overriding importance. This was made even worse when the Human-Covenant War started. However after the war, re-colonisation and re-armment of the UNSC was starting and gradually the planet, once again, became one of the major Ore-industrial locations in the UNSC.
