Chicago author (1909-1981) of The Man with the Golden Arm, a bleak account of morphine addiction, as well as A Walk on the Wild Side, a tale of depravity in mid-century New Orleans. A Walk on the Wild Side inspired Lou Reed's 1972 hit "Walk on the Wild Side".[1]
