Turkana IV, once known as New Paris, was the fourth planet planet in the Turkana star system in the Alpha Quadrant. It was a failed Human colony and homeworld of USS Enterprise-D Chief of Security Tasha Yar. (TNG episode: "Legacy"; TNG novel: Survivors) The name for Yar's homeworld, "New Paris", only appeared in Survivors, perhaps intended to be the New Paris colonies. The canonical name of Turkana IV appeared later in Legacy, while many other sources have developed New Paris along very different lines, indicating that these are indeed different worlds.

(TNG: ) Die Stabilität in der Kolonie bricht 20 Jahre nach dem Kontaktabbruch zur Föderation zusammen, da sich die politischen Parteien gegenseitig bekriegen. Als Resultat bleiben nur noch die zwei stärksten Parteien, die Koalition und die Allianz, über.Die Koalition erhält schließlich von der Regierung Polizeibefugnisse, da diese der Gewalt auf dem Planeten nicht mehr gewachsen ist. Sie erhalten Annäherungsdetektoren implantiert, damit man sie besser kontrollieren kann, jedoch wird nur wenige Monate danach die Regierung gestürzt. Seitdem herrscht ein Dualismus zwischen der Koalition und der Allianz, der mit Waffengewalt und Entführungen geführt wird. (TNG: ) Als Data und Jean-Luc Picard 2371 in der Stellarkartographie nach dem Grund suchen, aus dem Tolian Soran die Amargosa-Sonne zerstört hat, wird der Name dieses Planeten in der Stellarkartographie angezeigt.
