The election of 1987 was the third consecutive election in which control of Parliament changed hands, leading commentators and much of the public to begin to become frustrated with the so-called "Westminster bubble" and the largely anti-establishment attitude prevalent in the late 1980's that would lead to the rise of the younger generation of Tories who would sweep to power in 1990.
