While the previous Ergodyne models had bodies made from Luthite, a light-weight synthetic material, the body of the EXR170 was solid agathis. The shape of the Ergodyne body is reminiscent of those in the S and JS series. The EXR170 features a maple neck with a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. It employs an HSH pickup configuration with humbucking pickups in the bridge and neck position and a single coil in the middle. Components include a synchronized tremolo bridge and Ibanez Infinity pickups.
